I guess I’m watching TV again

I have a little bad habit of starting a series then just kind of forgetting to watch. Thank goodness for DVDs and episodes online.

My viewing habits are more like a graze than a schedule, but it looks like that’s all going to change.

Why?

RuPaul’s Drag Race, Leverage, Burn Notice and Project Runway. Now, PR may end up being one of those “catch up online” shoes, but the other three I want to support by watching them as they air.

I’m also watching Caprica, but it’s mainly because I love the split shots of Avatar!Zoe and ScaryRobot they do. The whole “Does this body make me look like a guy?” It just really pushes my buttons about how we see gender and how we transpose it onto other things. I’m really hoping they go into this during the series and that it’s not all going to be about the two religions. It reminds me of the panel at Wiscon that was titled “What gender is your Roomba?” (looky there, a write-up about said panel on Io9)

I had to wonder what it said about me as I tend to name everything Tachikoma. Which to me are neither male nor female, just Tachikoma.

Daisy…Daisy~

Yesterday in my poetry writing class we critiqued a poem titled “Singularity”.
There are two guys in this class with the same name and for some reason I had thought the poem by the first one was titled “Singularity” because it really did seem more about how being infatuated with someone was much like being drawn into a black hole. Time slows down when you’re with them, you can’t help but be drawn in…things like that.
Well, it wasn’t, but the poem today was and I ended up not saying much about it when we critiqued it because he’d really confused what a singularity was with the big bang. (as in it was ONLY the big bang and nothing else)

I think this guy was REALLY hoping that I’d say something, but in the words of Inigo Montoya, “I do not think it means what you think it means.”  When I did speak up he gave me this, “psh what do you know anyway” kind of attitude.

Then this happened:

Guy: Well, I was watching the Discovery Channel and it was thing about super strings and stuff that I didn’t get at all. But the Singularity is the Big Bang.
Me: *hand raise* It’s also used to describe the point in time when machines develop a consciousness…
Giant ceiling-mounted projector: I LIVE!!! (It just came on, like on cue and was projecting a blank blue screen onto the chalkboard. I didn’t notice until the whole class suddenly freaked out and since my back is to the blackboard I had no idea why they were suddenly staring at me.)
Class: OMG!!!!!!
Me: *turns to girl in seat next to me* WHERE IS SARAH CONNOR?

That projector has a huge lens so it was very HAL 2000.*

*Did I mention yapping about 2001 Space Odyssey later in class? Well, you write a poem about mermaids on Jupiter and it’s bound to come up.
